What is Hospice?
Hospice is a way of caring for patients and their families when they are facing the end stages of life due to illness. Hospice is not a place, nor a treatment. Hospice provides this care wherever home may be. The focus of hospice is to provide symptom management and pain control as palliative care in an effort to improve a person’s quality of life. In addition, hospice provides support for the family through education, counseling, and presence.
Why Use Hospice?
Hospice provides customized care; someone to talk to regarding resources, finances, spiritual direction or just companionship as patients and their families often face very difficult decisions when confronted with terminal diseases. These professionals are defined as your Interdisciplinary Team. The team provides hospice care that focuses on both the quality of life free from pain; as well as, family support. Your hospice team is available to help with information, education on resources, counseling, and a strong shoulder to lean on.
The Focus of Hospice is to:
- Help maintain a person’s quality of life and comfort
- Provide Pain Control and Symptom Management
- Offer support for family and caregivers through education, counseling, and presence
- Offer peace of mind
